Organic Clementine with just a little Clove Body Scrub

(by Clara)

So, our workshop/store already smells amazing.  Just ask anybody who’s ever been here.  On days, like today, when we make our awesome Organic Clementine and Clove Body Scrub, the whole place just takes on a slightly warmer, slightly home-ier scent. Clove, while not being at all overpowering in our recipe, is still so evocative of so many good things and nice times. Holidays, spiced tea, fireplaces, warmth… The best part is that it smells so nice on your skin.  The scrub is a blend of sea salt and organic turbinado sugar, jojoba, sesame and virgin coconut oils. It gently exfoliates while leaving your skin incredibly soft and moisturized.  It’s one of my favorite scent blends.  Just the right balance of sugar and spice.

Mothers Day at skinnyskinny, May 9th

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

posted by Bumblebee

After everything that we have put our mothers through, after everything that our mothers have put us through…well, I cant decide with which one to start. Both are equally valid statements and I bet if we took a vote we would have to have a tie breaker. Needless to say, none of us would be here if it weren’t for these magical beings that we call mothers. Because of this, skinnyskinny is handing out cupcakes to all of the wonderful mothers who stop in our Brooklyn shop tomorrow. Baked by Clara herself. While supplies last of course.

So here is an idea, take your mom to breakfast or lunch, stroll on over to skinnyskinny, buy her some well deserved organic bath and body goodies, let her enjoy our wonderful products AND some cupcakes. There you go! I’ve planned your day, no more stressing out about mothers day gift giving.  Time is better spent with your mom than at the local drug store trying to decide which mass produced, overpriced card is best.

Pssst…we also have handmade cards.  More on that later.

skinnyskinny is located at : 129b Roebling St., Brooklyn, NY

Administrative Assistant’s Day, April 21

Friday, April 16th, 2010

(posted by Bumble Bee)

When I was younger, I can remember my father talking about, what was then called “Secretary’s Day”.  There was always a moment of slight panic in our house the evening before this holiday.  My father, who is the most organized and structured person whom I’ve ever known, would always seem to wait until the last minute to make arrangements for gifts for his administrator assistants.  Of course, it would be easy for someone to just order flowers on the phone, but my father knew this…it would be “easy”.  Meaning that if the gratitude was easy to show to his employees by simply making a phone call and rattling off a credit card number, the gratitude would always seem a little false and fall short of the appreciation that he actually felt.

Growing up in a very small town our merchant options were kinda slim, especially when one was up against a deadline.  So, what we would do is drive around to our neighborgh’s houses and the local market to purchase bits and pieces of homemade or homegrown things like honey, soaps, fruits and of course flowers.  The next day, on Secretary’s Day (excuse me, Administrative Assistants Day) everyone received a little box of local, homemade goodies.

My father’s employees loved it, it started up conversations that wouldnt normally happen in the office.  Perhaps more worthy conversations about family, food, craft and just living.

We here at skinnyskinny would like for you to not only remember Administrative Assistant’s Day, but perhaps take into consideration something else besides the usual phone call to the florist. Come by the shop and check out all of our goodies or browse what we have online.  We would be more than happy to help you put something unique, organic and handmade together for whomever you wish to admire on April 21st…even if you don’t sign their paycheck.

Gramercy Bag in blue

This gorgeous bag is one of Allison Teich McGowan’s amazing creations.  You can see them all at her store or on her site.  All of her bags are made from ecofriendly materials (like organic cotton, hemp, etc.), or like this one, it’s made from reclaimed/repurposed deerskin.  Plus, they are so so pretty and they are made in Brooklyn!

Featured Products: Organic Real Cocoa Soap & Organic Rose Almond Soap

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

We’ve blogged about sending organic flowers to your Valentine, but what about sending an organic bouquet of a different sort?  How about a nice bouquet of Organic Rose & Almond Soap.  It’s filled with lots of rose petals (ie, instant romance!) and it’s so nicely scented that it’s bound to make so-and-so forgive you for most of your idiosyncratic ways.  Most of them, anyway.  The point being that a rose is a rose is a rose.  You can find them here:

Or, how about sending some delicious organic chocolates?  We’ve got that…in soap.  Our Organic Real Cocoa Soap is excellent.  It’s filled with lots of unrefined organic cocoa butter that makes this soap smell like real true cocoa, not a sugary sweet dessert.  It’s remarkably gentle and moisturizing, too. Plus, no one will gain any weight from this chocolate.  Find it here:

So, get to romancing and appreciating…skinnyskinny makes it easy.

Organic Potpourri!

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

For anyone who knows me, you will know I have been on a quest for some time now to re-hab potpourri’s image.  Usually, when I tell someone that I’ve been working on it, I’m lucky if the person just says ‘huh…?’  Often enough, there’s outright derision.  Well, to prove to all those nay-sayers that potpourri can be as beautiful, enticing and complex, here at long last is skinnyskinny’s first entry into the potpourri world: Organic Lavender & Sage Potpourri.

All of the ingredients in this blend are certified organic.  It’s made from lavender buds, white ceremonial sage, lemons and limes (that we cut and dried ourselves), roses, birds’ eye chili peppers, and lots of other little goodies.  This potpourri is great as a room freshener or in sachets.  The scent is strong and well-balanced.  It’s not overly cloying or perfume-y.  It’s really lovely.   And it can be yours very very soon, basically as soon as it gets added to our site.

UPDATE: It is done.  Go here to get your own.  And say good-bye to cinnamon and pine cones in your potpourri.  We’ll be adding our superb Orange and Fennel potpourri tomorrow.  Just wait til you see (and smell) that one.  It’s gorgeous all around.
